SAFE with AM in the am
We don't claim to be the 2 smartest guys in the room, but we do have this to offer--we are tuned in, longtime, local fans focused in on one thing, the best bet on the next Giant's game. We are a father and son team that follows the Giants closely; we also follow the betting lines closely and we hope to bring these together every morning to bring you what we refer to as the Safe Bet of the Day.™ Unlike other pods, we are here to pre-view tonight's game, not re-view last night's. We are forward looking. We share our analysis and predictions and then give out what we think is the best bet on the board for tonight. We don't give out picks for other teams, in other sports, or for other people. We hone, we narrow, we focus, all to try to bring you a winner. So, good luck, stay safe, and go Giants.

Giants win! Back after 2 days off, M finally has a win to talk about. And how about that new blood, especially Trevor McDonald on the mound? All good stuff, but it's quickly on to tonight's game with Webb facing the familiar Walker Buelher. After a brief look at the matchup, M tosses out today's Safe Bet of the Day™. In honor of Cinco de Mayo, the song of the day is a favorite by The Gipsy Kings called "Djobi, Djoba". A lively flamenco tune that will get you in the mood. Possibly no pod tomorrow because I will be at the game! Look for me in section 304.
San Francisco Giants pre game podcast. Preview previews, predictions, and prejudices before every Giants game. Welcome back into the pod. It is Tuesday morning, May 5th. Cinco de Mayo today. I'm sure you probably have had your shot at tequila. You've got the mariachi music on in the background, ready to start your day. We are back with you after two days off. I was away for the weekend, so I missed Sunday. And then yesterday we had a mechanical breakdown at work, and I didn't get home until so late there was no way I was gonna be able to get this out in the AM. And they had a bunch of new players and lineup changes and stuff anyway. When I did finally get home, so it was probably good. I wasn't gonna have time to really look over all those, all of that information and get out with something anyway. So let's see, when I talked last, we were on a four-game losing streak that then went to six games after Sunday, an 0-6 road trip. They did have some good pitching, but just terrible offense, as you saw or heard, or both. And so it was refreshing yesterday to see that they did bring up some new players and had some lineup changes. Finally brought up Bryce Eldridge and Jesus Rodriguez, who, even though they didn't do great, at least perhaps provided a spark, if nothing else. And then Trevor McDonald on the mound last night provided more than a spark. He was lights out. Seven innings, only two hits, no walks, 81 pitches. Kind of picked up where he left off last year when he he ended up last year doing really well. So that was just amazing to see. And anyway, it's just good to come into a podcast after a Giants win because it's been a long time since we've been able to do that. So since we're in a good mood, let's go on right to today's game, tonight's game, I guess. And when I looked yesterday, it showed that it was gonna be a guy named Matt Waldron on the mound today. But I see this morning they've switched it up. He is now going tomorrow. It was gonna be Herman Marquez tomorrow, but it looks like he's got some kind of elbow injury, so they're gonna move Matt Waldron to tomorrow, and we have Walker Bueller going today instead. And if you remember, we we faced Walker Bueller real early in the season, March 30th, and we lit him up pretty good. He only went, let me see, in that yeah, four innings in that game, and we got him for three runs, five hits and two walks. He had three strikeouts, so we were on him pretty good for that game. He has not been having a very good year. He's up to 5.40 ERA and a 1.56 whip, neither of which is all that good. And he just hasn't been as good the last couple years. You know, he used to be good back in the day, but it's just he's been I don't know if I want to say washed up. He's just getting older, maybe. But his strikeout rate is average, he's been having a few too many walks. If you look at his innings for these games this year, he's only once has he gone more than even five innings. He's got an in a game of four innings, two point, let's see, two and two-thirds, five, two and two-thirds, four and two-thirds. So he hasn't been lasting very long in these games. And I think the Giants are gonna be able to take him today. I think we should be able to get some hits off of him. He's like I said, I don't want to say washed, but he's getting older, and it just seems like a guy the Giants should be able to get, especially right now. I just think with the new guys up and they're back home. Let's hope their bats can come around, and this is the kind of pitcher to do it off. And he is facing Logan Webb, and I don't really have to talk too much about Webb. He is at 4.30 ERA now, a 1.36 whip. Not terrible, not great. He's still been solid. It's really that first game. If you take the first game out, he has been amazingly consistent. Either six or seven innings in every game, three or less runs every game. In his last three, he gave up seven hits and two walks in all three of them, and either six or seven strikeouts. So he's been pretty consistent. The runs have been one, two, or three. He does best when he's not walking, guys. So control has been a little bit of an issue this year. The games where he doesn't walk, he does much, much better. Also, his pitch count is getting up there already. He's had a lot of games worth with a high pitch count, so it's a little bit of a worry, but I still think that overall he should be able to outpitch Walker Bueller. So I guess that's gonna take me today. To the safe bet of the day. What I'm gonna get to, it's pretty simple today because the numbers are heavily juiced to the Giants' favor. The money line is like minus 130, that kind of thing. So I know in the past, even though the last few games I haven't minded using the whole game and using our bullpen and taking them into account. I think for this game, I want to isolate Webb against Bueller because I know the Padres have a good bullpen. They've got a shutdown bullpen. So I'm gonna take that out of the equation and go back to earlier in the year when we were just kind of isolating the first five, because I want to isolate Webb over Bueller. I think he's gonna be able to outpitch him. So I'm gonna go with Giants first five run line at minus 110. The first five money line is minus 150, so obviously that's way too juicy. So I'm gonna take the extra chance, go with the run line. Hopefully, the Giants can have a lead after five. I also kind of like the first five over four. I want to say that was minus 105. I think it oh no, I think it was minus 110 also. But the over-under, I'm not sure about Bueller and how good he's gonna be. And Webb sometimes gives gives up a few too many hits and a few, a couple extra runs, sometimes too. So I'm gonna stay off the overunder, and like I said, I'm gonna stick with the one bet, isolating Webb over Bueller, Giants first five run line at minus 110. And that's all I have on the game today, will which will take me to today's song of the day. And since it's Cinco de Mayo, let's go with a Gypsy King song. And probably my favorite Gypsy King song is called Jobi Joba. It's spelled DJ O B I D J O B A. I think the translation is something like I will love you forever. I'm not too good at my Spanish, but anyway, it's probably my favorite Gypsy King song. It's a great one, it's a nice, lively tune, kind of a not quite mariachi, kind of a flamenco style song, but it's a really good one. You'll like it. So that's gonna take me to tomorrow. And first of all, it's not gonna be Herman Marquez after all, it's gonna be Waldron on the Mound against Adrian Hauser. And I don't know there, so I have tickets for the game. I'm gonna be at the game, and it might be that I won't have a chance to do the pod, depending on when I get off work and how much time I have between work and having to catch the ferry over to get to that game. So if there is no podcast tomorrow, well, I was gonna tell you a little bit about Waldron. He's an old guy, a knuckleballer. He's a guy that the Giants should be able to hit too. So, but I don't like Hauser on the mount against him, so I don't really know if I'm gonna throw out a pick now for that game without having a chance to look at Waldron and Hauser's numbers a little bit closer. So hopefully I'll have a chance to do that maybe today and have a chance to come on real quickly and do a quick one before I go to that game tomorrow. But if I don't, then there won't be a pod tomorrow, and there is no game on Thursday. It's a day off for the Giants finally, so that means I won't be back until Friday. And I'm gonna wait until then to do a safe bet of the day update because one, it'll just be an off day for me to get everything together, and I've just been so busy the last few days I haven't had a chance to even tally anything up. So I will hopefully have time because of the Thursday day off to give you that on Friday. I believe it's the Pirates on Friday, but again, I hope to get this in tomorrow. We'll see. So that's all I have for today. Make sure if you're outside today and there's Cinco de Mayo parties going on, you'd be real safe. If you're drinking your tequila, make sure and get a designated driver. Use Uber, stay safe out there on the Cinco de Mayo Day and go giant.
