No singing to start off this episode after an ugly Giants loss. A quick recap of last night's game and then it's on to today's which showcases Christopher Sanchez, who the Giants faced earlier this year, and Webb on the mound.  They both have good numbers and that makes it tough to come up with a call for today.  Even though he doesn't sound too enthusiastic about it, M finally does come up with a Safe Bet of the Day™.  Today's song of the day is quite a bit more recent than yesterday's nostalgia.  "Feed the Machine" by Poor Man's Poison.  I guarantee you'll like it. Finally, he leaves with the news that there may not be a pod tomorrow because of the early start time, 10:05 am. but he will be back on Friday to break down the game against the Rays.

Good morning and welcome back into the pod. It is Wednesday morning, April 29th, and you'll notice I'm not singing this morning because we're coming to you after a Giants loss. Pretty ugly Giants loss. Mally didn't look good. They just all the way around, their offense looked terrible. I wish I would have known. I noticed, you know, just before the game, they said, or they announced, I guess it was earlier in the day, but it was after I had done the podcast that they announced that they are firing Rob Thompson as their manager and hiring Don Maddenly as the interim manager. And I wish I would have known that before because I would have lightened up on the wages or taken them off altogether. Because it seems like whenever a team does that, they always seem to get a win right off the bat with the new manager. I don't know, it's just something about the mindset. Maybe they relaxed a little bit. I mean, the Red Sox just did the same thing a couple days ago. They got three wins in a row. So it kind of worries me about tonight, also. The Phillies do kind of look like a team that's been underperforming, like they could be about ready to break out. Anyway, in last night's game, Mally walks, hurt him again, walks in the fourth, walks in the sixth. I kind of wish they would have pulled him before Harper came up. He was a lefty. It didn't really make any sense. Mally had been laboring already. I wish they would have just taken him out. I guess we know what mally we were gonna. I was saying I wouldn't know what Mally we're gonna get, and we didn't get the one that was throwing darts against the Dodgers. We got the other one. And the Luzardo we got was the good one, unfortunately. So anyway, that did not come in good. The money line didn't come in, the Philadelphia under four and a half didn't come in. It was, you know, a tough one. But I'm trying not to be too discouraged because you know, Giants could win tonight, they could get back on track, they could still win the series. If they win tonight, you still have hopes that they win the series. They won three in a row. But if you watch the game, it certainly didn't strike confidence into anyone after that effort. I was looking at today's bets to see what was going to look good, and I'll get into it later, but nothing really was looking good. Like what to look for tomorrow, but I'll get into that later. Today for the Phillies, they have Christopher Sanchez on the mound. He's a righty. We did face him last time when the Phillies were in San Francisco. He gave up two earned runs. But overall, his ERA is 2.94. In six games, he's given up two or less earned runs in five of those six. But the thing about Sanchez is he gives up a lot of hits, even though he doesn't give up a lot of runs. His whip is 1.60, which is like fifth or sixth worst in all of baseball. But all of his other numbers are good. You know, like in the last game against the Cubs, that was his one bad game. He gave up six earned runs and five and a third, twelve hits and two walks, only four strikeouts. In his previous games, he's given up eight hits, six hits with three walks, eleven hits, four hits and four walks. So he does allow base runners. Now he has a really high strikeout rate. One of the tops 11 and a half strikeouts per nine innings. That's like yikes. That's really good. But his walk rate is high. 2.67 per nine, that's really high. And he gives up a lot of home runs, almost a home run per game, which is high. So he's got a lot of funky numbers. He, you know, he doesn't strike it. I mean, he strikes out a lot of guys, but gives up home runs and walks and base runners. But he just hasn't given up many runs. So yeah, it's gonna be good. Like the last game he gave up six earned runs with 14 base runners. The game before that, he gave up nine base runners, but no earned runs. Against the Giants, he gave up nine base runners, it was only two earned runs. The game before that, he gave up eleven base runners, but only two earned runs. And then he had a game, he gave up eight base runners, only one earned run. So he does give up a lot of base runners, just not very many runs. Kind of like Mally yesterday. He gave up six hits and three walks. Yeah, for example, Mally yesterday gave up six hits and three walks, so nine base runners, but it was five earned runs. So it just depends on if they come in bunches or if he can scatter them around. He seems to be good this year at scattering them around, which you look at some of his other numbers, and they're really good. His field-independent pitching is 2.62. His batting average on balls in play is 423, which is so high, which means he's been very unlucky. His expected ERA 3.3, which is good. So all of his numbers are good. You know, I expect him to do kind of about the same thing today. Scatter hits, maybe walk a couple, maybe even give up a home run, but with lots of strikeouts, which kind of is similar to the way I think Webb is gonna pitch, and that's who's on the mound for the Giants today. Because Webb tends to scatter hits, walk a couple, maybe give up a home run. He might not have as many strikeouts as Sanchez, but he has given up a few too many hits and too many walks this year. So my prediction is that both pitchers are gonna give up some hits and walks and get themselves into some jams. And then the question is gonna be just which team is gonna be able to take advantage. Like I said before, usually after the game, like yesterday's game, I have these different ideas of look for this, look at the odds tomorrow for this. Look at the I want to look at somebody's strikeouts or earned runs, or I'm gonna be really high on the money line, or the over-under, or something like that. But after last night's game, my note is nothing looks good. I have no faith in the Giants' offense. I did put maybe the over seven because Webb and Sanchez are both suspect. But then I have maybe the under seven because the Giants' offense sucks. So I had no idea what I was gonna do after last night's game. And so I'm gonna take that and get to today's safe bed of the day. And when I did get up this morning and look at the numbers, none of them are all that good. There's nothing that I really like. The money line is plus 125. You know, it was like yesterday. I felt like that was a trap at the plus 147. You can see now why it was at plus 147 yesterday, because that's probably what it should have been 247 the way that game came out. Uh Philly under is now under three and a half runs instead of four and a half runs, so that's not enough. Giants are three and a half, but with Sanchez, I just don't feel good about that one. All the earned runs, strikeouts, and out numbers were 150 or higher, so those were juiced way too much. The 15 and a half hits for the game, I kind of at one point thought that was gonna be the under, but then I looked at how many hits Sanchez and Webb give up. And geez, I almost want to go with the over, even though it's juiced to the under at minus 130. So there was nothing that I really like, but what I'm gonna go with is an old boring tried and true over-under, and I'm gonna go with the over seven, and that is because, like I said, I think both Webb and Sanchez are a little suspect, and it's not Oracle, so if they give up hits like they do and walks like they do, I think there's a higher chance of those base runners scoring. So, and I want to just because I don't really have anything I like, I want to just hope that the game's gonna be a higher scoring, some action out there, some base runners, something going on on the base pass, that kind of thing. So I wouldn't blame you if you didn't put it in, but I have to come up with something for the safe bet of the day, and I don't really like that much today. It's the safest one I can come up with. It is at minus 115, so it's you know not too juicy, it's right about there. So I'm gonna make that today's safe bet of the day, the over seven at minus 115. And that's gonna take me to today's song of the day, and I'm gonna go with it's not gonna be an oldie anymore. I know that one yesterday was way out of left field. I'm gonna get back into today and go with a song by a group called Poor Man's Poison called Feed the Machine, because it seems like that's about all I'm doing these days is just feeding that machine. Anyway, it's a great song. Hopefully you like it. Feel free to, you know, if somebody wants to send and let me know if you like the songs or not, feel free to let me know. Also, there will probably not be a podcast tomorrow because the game time is so early. It's at 10.05, and I don't usually get these out until about 11 a.m. So unless somehow I get off work or get up real early and do it before work, chances are pretty slim that's gonna happen. There probably won't be one tomorrow. And I see it's Hauser versus Painter, and they actually faced each other when Philadelphia was in San Francisco. They both gave up four earned runs, although Hauser's numbers were a little better. He went six innings, Painter only went four, Hauser had three strikeouts, Painter only had one. So if I don't get a podcast in tomorrow and I had to pick a safe better day, I'd probably go with Giants Moneyline figuring that Hauser and our bullpen can do as well or better than Painter and their bullpen. Anyway, because there probably won't be one tomorrow, that means I will be back on Friday, and it is the Giants facing Tampa Bay. They will, let's see, 4.10 Pacific time, and it is Robbie Ray facing the Rays, it looks like, scheduled for that game against Shane McClanahan. Now, obviously, that's two days away, haven't done any analysis of that, but it looks like I will be back Friday morning with the recap of probably two games at that point, and a look forward to the Friday game with Ray and McClanahan. So that's all I have for today. Hopefully, you guys are having what looks like a beautiful sunny day out there for us. Supposed to be back up to 70 degrees today, and it looks like it's gonna be. The sun is already out, it looks nice out there. Hopefully, you can enjoy your day. Stay safe and go down.
