SAFE with AM in the am
We don't claim to be the 2 smartest guys in the room, but we do have this to offer--we are tuned in, longtime, local fans focused in on one thing, the best bet on the next Giant's game. We are a father and son team that follows the Giants closely; we also follow the betting lines closely and we hope to bring these together every morning to bring you what we refer to as the Safe Bet of the Day.™ Unlike other pods, we are here to pre-view tonight's game, not re-view last night's. We are forward looking. We share our analysis and predictions and then give out what we think is the best bet on the board for tonight. We don't give out picks for other teams, in other sports, or for other people. We hone, we narrow, we focus, all to try to bring you a winner. So, good luck, stay safe, and go Giants.

Apologies for yesterday's terrible recording, and a warning that today's might be the same. M starts off with a recap of the laugher that was last night's game and yesterday's SBOD. They were both over early, but there were some bright spots--11 hits, 4 runs, bullpen. Next he takes a look at today's matchup between Ray and Perez. That leads to a bit of a game prediction and today's Safe Bet of the Day™. And that is followed by today's song, which is "Upset" by Nic D. Keep up the hope, it's early. "I'm up and I'm set, how could I be upset?"
San Francisco Giants pre game podcast. Preview previews, predictions, and prejections before every Giants game. Good morning and welcome back into the pod. It is Saturday morning, April 25th. And first of all, I need to apologize for saying yesterday that it was Saturday two different times when it was actually Friday. I don't know what I was thinking. I was shocked when I went back and heard it. Also, I need to apologize for how terrible the recording was yesterday. I had to use an old mic. I didn't realize how bad it was gonna be until I listened to it back. At that point, it was too late to redo it. I had to get to lunch. I am having to use the same mic today, so it may not be any better today. I'm gonna try to mess with it a little bit. I realize it never sounds that professional what I'm doing, but it seemed even worse yesterday. I'll try to fix it up a little bit today, but don't keep your hopes up. I like to think that gives it a little charm, but I know that's just wishful thinking. Anyway, last night's game, it was a bad game. It was over early, three runs in the first against the Giants by the Marlins, five hits in the first against the safe bet of the day. Everything was over right off the bat. Didn't realize Hauser could not get lefties out. I heard that later before the game, and I was like, oh, I didn't really like this pick because that just didn't shape up well. Anyway, it was a bit of a laugher of a game. We can pretty much flush that one, move right on to today's game. Trying to stay positive because the Giants did get 11 hits and four runs, and that usually gets a win for them. If it wasn't for Hauser giving up eight, the rest only gave up one run. So everything else was good. Scoring the four runs, getting 11 hits, the bullpen doing all right. Like I said, we're trying to stay positive. And we have today on the mound Robbie Ray against Yuri Perez. I don't need to say too much about Robbie Ray. You guys know he's what been one of my favorites all year. I like him at Oracle against Miami. He's a fly ball pitcher, and usually Miami doesn't hit home runs until last night. So those should be flyouts, hopefully, tonight or this afternoon. He has a 2.86 ERA. He's been very solid every start. I guess you could argue that maybe he's due for a bad one, but until we see that, there's no reason to think it. His strikeouts have been good. He had four, then seven, seven, six, and seven. Pretty much his best year of his career so far. It's just too bad he hasn't had any help. Just the last two times he gave up two earned runs and lost. Or he's had that happen twice where he gave up only two earned runs and lost. His walks have been an issue, his control has been a little bit of an issue. But what I like about him on the mound tonight is that he's a lefty and it takes away that whole lefty advantage that they used against Hauser. Although that might only be useful against Hauser, the way he was throwing and Landon Rube going tomorrow probably won't be as susceptible. For the Marlins on the mound, they have Yuri Perez. He is another young hard thrower, only 23 years old and already been in the majors for three years. In 2023, he only pitched 19 games, had a 3.15 ERA. He was out in 2024. I don't know if it was Tommy John or an injury. I always just assume Tommy John, but it could have been an injury of some kind. Last year he pitched in 20 games, 4.25, not great. And this year he's been in five games of 4.15, which isn't that great either. Last outing, though, he only gave up three hits and no walks. It was his best this year, so I'm hoping he's not getting better and kind of coming into form, rounding out into form. He hasn't gone that many innings. The last game he went six, and that was the game where he only gave up three hits and no walks. And his very first game against Colorado, he did. Other than that, he's only gone four or five innings and given up three or four runs each time. So it really was his best outing by far, his last one out. So I'm not sure if that's where he's pitching these days, or if maybe that was the aberration. So for tonight's game, I kind of like the matchup. I think even though Perez is good, I think Ray is gonna be as good. Perez was supposed to, he's not supposed to be as good as Alcantara. And Alcantra gave up nine hits and three runs. If you took Hauser out of the game yesterday, that would be a completely different game. It takes the lefty situation out because Ray is a lefty, so they're not gonna be throwing all those lefties up like they did yesterday. You know, it's easy to be all negative after last night's game, but I'm trying to be in good spirits. It is still early. The matchup is different, the lefties are different, the day game. We have a lot of different things to to look at today. So with that, I'm gonna get quickly to today's safe bet of the day. And again, there's not a lot I like. The under hits went down to 14 and a half, so I'd probably lean toward the over, but I'm not sure because I kind of like Ray and it won't be the lefties. I'm not sure how Miami's gonna hit in that situation. I like the money line today for the Giants. It's minus 108, minus 102 for the Marlins. So the Giants are slightly favored, but just barely. So it's expected to be a nice close game, and I like Ray and our bullpen to win this game. I do like the money line tonight, but the one I like the most I'm gonna take is the under outs for Perez at 16 and a half. He's only gone over that twice. Like I said, once was his last game where he had three hits and no outs. So let's, I mean, no walks. So let's just hope that doesn't happen. And his first game against Colorado, who is just not that good of a team. So I'm still having faith that the Giants can hit as well as they did yesterday, get the bat on the ball, get some long counts, try to get him out of the game before he gets to that 17th out, which would be so he has to go five and two thirds to pass this up. Five and a third would be fine. He's only come out for that sixth inning two times, like I said. So we'll go with that today, mix it up a little bit. My one is oh, I forgot to write, I think it's minus 115, if I remember right. I'll double check under 16 and a half outs for Perez. So we'll make that the official play of the game for our song of the day today. I'm gonna change it up again, and it's not quite the rocker song I've had the last two days. It's a song off of Aiden's last playlist that he sent me. And it's by a guy named Nick D, N I C D, and it's called Upset. And I'll just let you go listen to that because you know we're trying not to get upset yet with these Giants, right? We're gonna hang in there. Try not to get upset. Tomorrow it is Landon Roop against Max Meyer. And again, you know, Roop's one of our favorites, one of our best pitchers. So we're gonna have a good matchup again tomorrow. It should be a really good game. It's 115, I believe, or maybe 105. I know it's the afternoon game, right around in there. So tune in tomorrow. We will again, as usual, talk about today's game, try to analyze tomorrow's, see if we can pick out a nice, good, safe bet of the day. With that, hope you enjoy your Saturday. It is Saturday today. So enjoy Saturday afternoon, Saturday evening, the rest of your weekend. Make sure and stay safe out there and go giant.
