SAFE with AM in the am
We don't claim to be the 2 smartest guys in the room, but we do have this to offer--we are tuned in, longtime, local fans focused in on one thing, the best bet on the next Giant's game. We are a father and son team that follows the Giants closely; we also follow the betting lines closely and we hope to bring these together every morning to bring you what we refer to as the Safe Bet of the Day.™ Unlike other pods, we are here to pre-view tonight's game, not re-view last night's. We are forward looking. We share our analysis and predictions and then give out what we think is the best bet on the board for tonight. We don't give out picks for other teams, in other sports, or for other people. We hone, we narrow, we focus, all to try to bring you a winner. So, good luck, stay safe, and go Giants.

Everything goes as predicted last night and the Giants get the first in Dodger series. After a brief review of that game, M moves to tonight's and explores why this one will probably be different-- Ohtani on the mound vs. Tyler Mahle for starters. He discusses other differences between the two games before explaining why he's having a rough time digging up a Safe Bet of the Day™ today. He doesn't sound too confident about his final decision. Finally, he corrects a statement about yesterday's song before giving out another song of the day. Enjoy!
Good morning, and welcome back to stage at a.m. in the a.m. your San Francisco Giants pre-game podcast, bringing you previews, projections, and predictions before every Giants game. Good morning and welcome back into the pod. It is Wednesday morning, April 22nd. It looks like another gray overcast day out there, although no rain by game time again, so it should be clear, just kind of another overcast gray day out there. We are coming to you today off of a nice win by the Giants against the rival Dodgers. And the game went pretty much just as we called. A low-scoring game. Pitchers did well, bullpins did well, low hits, the rain and the cold. It all added up to pretty easy wins. Actually, all the even the leans that we had yesterday all came in. The Dodgers under four and a half runs, the Giants first five run line, Giants game run line, the under 15 and a half outs, which was the safe bet of the day. They all came in because we kind of had nailed the way the game was gonna go. So everything kind of came in. Hopefully, you had the under 15 and a half hits for the game. It ended up being only nine hits. Dodgers had their season low three hits, so we got lucky to catch them on that game. It was a little scary at first after the Giants got three runs in the first, and there were four hits in that first inning. Oh boy, that didn't look good, but both pitchers settled down. Yamamoto especially really settled down over there after that going seven full innings. He looked really good. It was funny also, I don't know if you heard before the game, this series between the Giants and Dodgers was 1,288 wins for the Giants, 1288 wins for the Dodgers before last night's game, which is just unbelievable, really. They played that many games and it's that even. So I guess that puts the Giants up by one right now, with two more to go in this series. And I am actually gonna have a difficult time predicting today's game because I don't expect Tyler Molly and the Giants used bullpen to do as well as Landon Roop and the Giants rested bullpen did. And you don't need me to tell you what's expected in this game, just look at the odds because the money line is minus 205, juiced to the Dodgers. So obviously, the books are expecting it to be a big Dodger win, and that is for two reasons. One, the hitting numbers of the Dodgers that we went over yesterday, there's just no reason to believe that they're going to be held down again, especially with Tyler Malley on the mound. And the pitching matchup is just in the Dodgers' favor with Otani versus Malley. Now, if you look at Otani's numbers, they are out of this world. He's had three starts, zero runs in six innings, zero runs in six innings, one run in six innings, a.50 ERA, a 0.72 whip. Those are pretty impressive numbers. And especially if you compare them to Tyler Mallee's, whose numbers are not out of this world, maybe part of the underworld, because he's had four starts with a 7.23 ERA and a 1.93 whip. And those numbers do not bode well against the Dodgers. Runs are gonna be tough for the Giants if we're gonna face Otani and a fresh bullpen and the weather being what it is and Oracle Park, but they probably won't be quite as rough for the Dodgers because they're gonna face Tyler Malley and a used bullpen, and also they have some lineup changes. Yesterday they had Will Smith resting and Andy Paes resting, and both of them will probably be back in the lineup today. So they're gonna have their full lineup. Like I said, the Giants had heavy bullpen usage yesterday, the Dodgers did not. So you put all that together, O'Tali, Otani's numbers, and Mally's numbers, and Smith and Pahez back in the lineup. Also, if you saw Jung Hu Lee is out and Daniel Susak is out, so we're not gonna have them available. So you put all that together and you can see why the Dodgers are expected to win handily. The odds across the board kind of bear this out. So I'm gonna let that lead me right to today's safe bet of the day. And like I said, if you look at the numbers, a lot of them are just unplayable. Like I said, the money line is minus 205 juice to the Dodgers. The Giants, I was thinking, well, maybe the Giants runs that's over two and a half, and that's minus 149. The first five money line is minus 210. So you can see all the numbers are pretty high. I even thought about going back to the well and doing the under 15 and a half hits. That's minus 139. And really, when you look at it, I don't like that one anyway because Malley gives up, he's given up eight hits in less than five innings twice. So he could give up eight. I mean, the Dodgers could get 15 hits at that rate. So I really, you know, the like yesterday, I was able to dig out a win or a pick that I really liked. But even the the strikeout numbers, the earned runs numbers, all those, those they're just bad numbers. They're really high odds, 170s, 160s. So I couldn't take any of those. I just couldn't find anything I really, really like. So what I'm gonna end up going with is just the basic over seven and a half. It's juiced to minus 120. I'm just hoping the Giants can get some runs, the Dodgers can get so I think it there's gonna be more runs tonight than last night, just given them pitching matchups, given the extra day, all of that stuff. I think there's gonna be more runs. So I'm gonna, even though, like I said, I'm not really happy with it, I don't really like anything on the board today because of the pitching matchup and because of the the numbers that are coming up with most of those. So I'm gonna stick with over seven and a half at minus 120, even though it's not my favorite pick. Like yesterday, I did like yesterday's pick quite a bit. I'm not nearly as happy with today's as I am. But we're gonna go with that anyway, as the official pick. Over seven and a half at minus 120. That's all I have for today's game. For tomorrow, it's Logan Webb back on the mound against Tyler Glass now. We should have had Tyler Molly pitching tomorrow tomorrow. We could have had two Tyers on the mound. Tyler Glass now, like all Dodger pitchers, has been very good this year. He's 2-0, 3.24 ERA and a 0.8 for a whip. So that is gonna be another tough call for the Giants. Should be another good game. Tomorrow we will attack that game and all the numbers involved. We will recap today's tonight's game. And let's see, I think that's all I have. Oh, also, I was gonna say yesterday I gave out that song here by the Mumford, Mumford and Sons, and I said it was from my daughter's playlist, but that was actually my own playlist when I went and looked back. That was mine. So I'm gonna give you one today from my daughter's playlist, which is a great song. It's called Frankie's Gun by the Felice Brothers, F-E-L-I-C-E. Check it out, it's a good one. You'll like it. If you liked here, you'll like this one. Anyway, that's all I have. Hope you enjoy the songs. Let's go, Giants. Remember, keep your head up, be safe, and go giants.
